New Appointment

 System

A review of our new appointment system was undertaken in September 2012.  100 patients were surveyed regarding the new appointment system.  Practice staff (including doctors and reception staff), were also surveyed for their thoughts and opinions on the new system.

After collating and discussing the surveys it has been decided to continue with the new appointment system as it is proving to be beneficial to the majority of patients and we hope that as we progress with the new appointment system and it is used by more of our patients it will become beneficial to all.

The feedback we received from patients has been summarised by Dr Lee.  The summary plus results from the patient surveys are below and are also displayed on notice boards around the surgery.

Many thanks to all patients that participated.

Our new appointment system has been up and running now since June and we have had a great deal of positive feedback.

The main benefit is the immediate/same day access to clinicians with patients no longer frustrated at the lack of available appointments. Naturally same day access is sometimes not possible when requesting a specific doctor, because some doctors work part-time & all doctors have regular administrative/managerial/teaching commitments. However with the high standard of our computerised records, a different doctor is very often able to help.

Some patients have been initially unhappy at having to speak to the doctor on the telephone first, but when a face-to-face appointment is needed, then this is arranged on the same day in the vast majority of cases.  It has proved to be much more convenient in many cases, when a telephone consultation has been adequate, avoiding an unnecessary, time consuming journey, often having to take time off work.

It is also much easier now to arrange phone calls & subsequent appointments at a time more suited & convenient to patients e.g. “Call between 9-10am or after 5pm”

We are regularly monitoring and tweaking the system and suggestions/comments are always welcome.
