Important: Emergencies

If you are confronted by a serious problem such as severe chest pain or severe bleeding, call an ambulance (dial 999) before calling the surgery.

The surgery emergency phone number is 01527 879035. Please only dial this number in cases of genuine medical emergency.

The practice will always endeavour to book an appointment with your preferred doctor or nurse and, if this is not possible, will always explain why. By computerising our records it is now much easier for one doctor to continue the treatment started by another.

When needing an appointment patients should contact the surgery, preferably by phone on Davenal House Surgery 01527 872008 or Stoke Prior Surgery 01527 832423, our receptionists have been trained to navigate patients to the best clinican possible. They will ask for details of the telephone request and a phone number that the patient can be contacted on.

This is asked so that calls can be prioritised appropriately, based on clinical need. A clinician will then contact the patient. By doing this it may be possible for the clinician to deal with the problem over the phone. If it is decided that a face to face appointment is needed this will be booked by the clinician when speaking to the patient on the phone.

If for whatever reason you are unable to use a telephone, a face to face appointment can be booked through reception or fill out an ask a doctor a question form.

Appointments to see one of our practice nurses or our healthcare assistants are booked through reception.

Urgent appointments

If you inform our receptionists that you have an urgent medical problem your call request will be dealt with on the same morning/afternoon as you call. If it is decided that you need to be seen in surgery the clinician will book you an appointment to be seen on the same day.

Routine appointments

You can speak to a doctor or nurse practitioner on the day you call, if necessary the doctor can book you an appointment to be seen at a time that is mutually convenient.

Advance bookable appointments

All telephone appointment requests can be dealt with on the day they are received; therefore advanced booking should no longer be necessary. For those patients that need to make arrangements due to transport or work commitments etc, this can be accommodated when speaking to the doctor.

Enhanced access

We offer extended hours appointments to all patients registered at Davenal House and Stoke Prior Surgeries. These appointments are especially useful to patients that need a routine appointment and who may find it difficult to attend during normal surgery hours.

These are pre-bookable appointments only:

  • Thursday evenings from 6:30pm until 7:30pm at Davenal House Surgery
  • Saturday mornings from 9am-5.00pm at BHI Parkside (Pre-booked appointments only)

Extended access hubs

In the Redditch & Bromsgrove area, practices are working in partnership to provide additional GP appointments. If you need access to an evening and weekend non-urgent appointment these are available with both doctors and nursing staff.

Appointments are offered at extended access hubs which are located at:

  • BHI Parkside, Bromsgrove

There is always at least one hub open every day of the week including bank holidays.

Hub opening hours are:

  • 6:30pm to 8pm, Weekdays
  • 9am to 5pm, Saturdays and bank holidays

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you are unable to attend, please inform us as soon as possible via phone so your appointment may be given to someone else.

If you appointment is not with 24 hours you can cancel your appointment via:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

We ask that if possible requests for home visits are received by 10:30am.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. If necessary home visits will be arranged by the doctor, after initially speaking to the patient on the telephone.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP.
